I launched my social marketing business Face to Face in June of 2010. I’d never owned my own business before and had never even considered being an entrepreneur!
When I was laid off from the national radio station I worked for, Facebook was beginning to gain steam. Some marketers were still snubbing their noses at it, saying it would go the way of My Space. As a Business Development Director for the station, I’d sold air time for advertising and wrote copy for my 45+ clients. Perhaps people would trust me to write status updates for them instead.
With support from my husband and a few key friends, I decided to take the risk. A few of my clients followed me over, which gave me a small client base to work with, which I was extremely grateful for. Owning my own business has made me much more in tune with other business owners. They’re pulled in so many directions! Helping them with this piece has brought me great satisfaction and fulfillment. Seeing them be successful is SO rewarding!
It hasn’t worked for everyone, and that’s okay. There’s a learning curve in every business. I’ve worked with a private jet service, a national restaurant chain, a child therapist who works with a therapy dog, an author, a mortgage lender, several realtors, an aesthetician, a life coach, and even a trucking company! The variety of businesses has made me learn so many things I wouldn’t have known otherwise.
